NuMex Plastics, Inc. has been manufacturing pipe of the highest quality in the same Roswell, NM location since 1970. In 2012 we began manufacturing all of our pressure pipe and tubing from PE4710 thus continuing a fifty year tradition of offering not only the finest customer service but also the toughest, highest quality NSF certified pressure pipe and tubing.
Why You Want 4710 Pipe
The numbers in PE4710 have a meaning. The first number signifies density (3 and 4 are both high density), the second number (7) is resistance to slow crack growth, and the last two numbers (10) relate to the pipe’s pressure rating. The 10 in PE4710 is 25% greater than the 08 in PE3408 which is why the pressure rating is 25% greater for the exact same wall thickness.
The 7 in PE4710 should be of utmost importance to anybody who buries pipe in the ground because it signifies a fifty fold increase in slow crack growth resistance over PE3408. Pipe service life is largely determined by resistance to slow crack growth.
NuMex Plastics, Inc. manufactures pipe to meet three different ASTM specifications. ASTM D-2239 is for polyethylene (PE) plastic pipe (SIDR-PR) based on a controlled inside diameter. ASTM D-3035 is for polyethylene (PE) plastic pipe (DR-PR) based on a controlled outside diameter and is what most people mean when they say iron pipe size (IPS). ASTM D-2737 is for polyethylene (PE) plastic tubing, is also based upon a controlled outside diameter, and is commonly referred to as copper tube size (CTS).
The correct installation of HDPE pipe is important. We recommend reading and following the Plastic Pipe Institute's Handbook of PE Pipe. The relevant chapters for installation are Chapter 7 - Underground Installation of PE Pipe and Chapter 8 - Above-Ground Installation of PE Pipe.
